The Social Shake-Up Kicks Off Tomorrow

The Social Shake-Up, Social Media TodaySocial Media Today is sponsoring Social Shake-Up in Atlanta this week and the looks to be packed with two-and-a-half days of valuable information on social business. First a quick disclaimer that Social Media Today occasionally publishes blog posts I've written.

The Best Practices of Social Business: The #socialshakup’s  agenda is filled with informational sessions focusing on multiple facets of social business. Among other topics, you'll be sure to learn:

  • What’s next for technology—including mobile, scanning, and wearable.
  • How to handle your social strategy if your data is compromised.
  • How to engage consumers around the world.
  • What you need to worry about when it comes to privacy and security.
  • Why your customer strategy should begin and end with community.

Learn from the Best: Kraft, Fidelity, Netflix, The Home Depot, Microsoft, Discover, ESPN, SAP, American Greetings, MasterCard, Coca-Cola, IBM, Porsche, and many more brands will participate this year's conference and be sharing their stories of social successes and lessons learned.

Incredible Keynotes: The line-up of keynote speakers, includes Jeremiah Owyang, Brian Solis, and Renee Ducre. They will be sure to educate you on what the future of social business is - from how marketing can lead innovation, to how the new collaborative economy can help your business succeed, to what the future looks like if social is everywhere. I’m guessing there will be lots of laughs, too, when Baratunde Thurston, the former director of digital at The Onion, tells you why “Digital Storytelling Doesn't Have to Be Boring and Sucky. It Can Be Fun!”

In-Person Networking: Might be a nice change of pace to do some in-person networking. The conference provides plenty of opportunities for networking. From the opening night party and a couple of lunches to coffee breaks and after-parties, you're guaranteed to have any number of in-person networking opportunities.

The value in the conference also comes from the human-to-human connections that occur during the serendipitous “hallway conversations” you'll have with other attendees, many of whom you'll already know by name. While they may not be on the agenda, these face-to-face discussions help make The Social Shake-Up a priceless event: it's a way to establish the kinds of connections and relationships that just aren't possible through your laptop screens, Twitter accounts, and dashed-off emails.

So, if you can be in Atlanta this week, check out Social Shake Up.
