From Trained Parrots to Chatbots With A Brain: AI Evolves To AGI

The Digital Slice Podcast is brought to you by The Friedman Group, LLC

Join Brad Friedman and Peter Voss as they chat about Artificial General Intelligence and the development of Conversational AI and a hyper-personalized Chatbot you may have already unknowingly spoken with (Wait until you hear who some of his clients are!).

Peter Voss is a Serial Entrepreneur, Engineer, Inventor and a Pioneer in Artificial Intelligence.

Peter started out in electronics engineering, but quickly moved into software. After developing a comprehensive ERP software package, Peter took his first software company from a zero to 400-person IPO in seven years.

Fueled by the fragile nature of software, Peter embarked on a 20-year journey to study intelligence (how it develops in humans, how to measure it, and current AI efforts), and to replicate it in software. His research culminated in the creation of a natural language intelligence engine that can think, learn, and reason — and adapt to, and grow with the user. He even coined the term ‘AGI’(Artificial General Intelligence) with fellow luminaries in the space.

Peter founded SmartAction.ai in 2009, which developed the first AGI-based call center automation technology. Now, in his latest venture, Aigo.ai, he is taking that technology a step further with the commercialization of the second generation of his ‘Conversational AI’ technology with a bold mission of providing hyper-intelligent hyper-personal assistants for everyone.

In addition to being an entrepreneur, engineer, inventor and AI pioneer, Peter often writes and presents on various philosophical topics including rational ethics, free will and artificial minds; and is deeply involved with futurism and radical life-extension.

In this Episode:

  • Peter talks about the journey he's been on to bring intelligence to software.
  • Peter talks about the term Artificial General Intelligence and how it is now used for Advanced AI.
  • Peter talks about machines that can think, learn, and reason the way humans do.
  • Peter talks about how Narrow AI is limited by the intelligence of the programmer, or the data scientist who is solving the problem.
  • Peter talks about how systems like ChatGPT are generative and just make up stuff.
  • Peter also talks about building a chatbot with a brain.

Quotes from this Episode:
“The thing that struck me is that software is inherently quite dumb.” – Peter Voss
“I actually coined the term “Artificial General Intelligence,” together with two of the, the other contributors to the book.” – Peter Voss
“All the chatbots that are out there don't have a brain, so they don't understand, have any depth of understanding. They don't have the ability to reason. They don't have the ability to learn or to remember.” – Peter Voss
“In fact, with a chatbot with a brain, you could actually provide a service that is better than a human.” – Peter Voss
“Ultimately you have to say that automation reduces the cost of goods and services, which makes everyone richer.” – Peter Voss
