I've been testing Placetag, an iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad app introduced about six months ago on the iTunes App Store. At first, I must admit, I thought this was just another location-based social networking app like foursquare or Gowalla. It's not. Facebook's annual f8 conference for developers was last week and Mark Zuckerberg made some big announcements regarding Facebook's its latest upgrades. Marketers learned the way users discover brands and engage with them is evolving. And users learned their experience is moving from a list of what happened in the last several minutes to a timeline view of what Facebook believes are the most relevant experiences in a user's life. Last week, Twitter released its own web analytics tool to help website owners who rely on Twitter for content distribution determine how much traffic they are getting from the site. Google quietly launched “Flight Search,” a cloud tool enabling you to find and book flights on the web. Google provided an “early look” at the tool demonstrating with flights from cities like Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Dallas, New York and Chicago. Airlines participating with Google on this project include Delta, JetBlue, Continental and American. (more…)
