I just finished reading twitter power 3.0: How to Dominate Your Market ONE TWEET AT A TIME for the second time. I generally don't read books more than once. This book was jam-packed with so much great advice, I just had to read it again to pick up some of the information I missed the first time.
The Forward to this book was written by Guy Kawasaki and reviews on the back of the book were written by Robert Scoble, Chris Brogan, Jay Baer and Mari Smith. That was my first clue this book was a “must read.” And it was.
Business Owners Should Read Twitter Power 3.0
Twitter Power is 250 pages of information every business owner will benefit from reading. New York Times best selling author Joel Comm and Dave Taylor (who has been helping invent the Internet for over 30 years) begin the book with an introduction to the social media landscape. Then we learn why Twitter is so powerful and get some best practices for starting out.
Joel and Dave walk us through the Twitter setup and design, building a Twitter following and the art of the tweet. For me, the meat of the book was where Joel and Dave shared tips on connecting with customers, leveraging Twitter for team communication, using Twitter to help build your brand and drive followers' behavior and how to make money on Twitter. The book concludes with some information on third-party tools and a list of recommended Twitter members to follow. I'm not sure why I'm not on that list, but, oh well.
Twitter Tips You Can Take To The Bank
The challenge here is to review the book, share some of the valuable information I read while not giving it all away as I'm guessing the authors would still like to sell some books. That said, I would like to share 10 great takeaways:
- Social media really is a big deal. And, it's a gigantic opportunity for business owners to promote their products and services to a targeted market.
- Strategize before diving in. There are different strategies for individual pages and brand pages. Know what you're doing before you start.
- Take advantage of every opportunity Twitter gives you to add content to your Twitter page. Fully complete your bio. Include a link to your website, blog or specific product page.
- Take advantage of design opportunities. Brand your Twitter page consistent with the rest of your online presence
- Build your following with quality followers. Be intentional about creating your own network of experts
- Remember, if your content is no good, no one will want to read it. There is an art to crafting your tweets.
- A solid group of followers is a resource to you. They have information you can use and they have followers you want to reach.
- If you're going to use Twitter for customer service, use it. Be present. Engage with your customers and make them feel part of a community.
- Use Twitter to help build your brand. If you want people to know and remember who you are, you have to keep putting the name of your business in front of them.
- Track your tweets. Know which tweets are driving people to your website, your blog, or your services pages. Use this data to tweak your tweets when necessary and to see what's working and keep doing it.
