Th holiday season is upon us. With inbound marketing, preparedness is everything. You need to anticipate your customer's needs and make relevant changes to your online presence. This means considering the upcoming holidays, what customers might be looking for during this period and making sure they find it on your website, blog and social media posts.
So think about the things people tend to buy during the holidays for people they love, friends and family. If you're in the business of selling any of these things, you need to make sure your inbound marketing is tuned to let people know. And, no matter what you're selling, remember your inventory definitely contains some potential gifts.
Decorations
Often, people buy holiday decorations on the spur of the moment — when they're browsing their local grocery store or pharmacy. But there are people who like to plan their holiday festivities in advance. These folks will go in for more elaborate decorations — handcrafted wreaths, handmade Christmas tree ornaments, artistically crafted holiday greeting cards etc.
So if you're selling any of these, you need to make sure you start your customer experience with eye-catching photos. When it comes to decorations, people aren't interested in practicality; they want something beautiful that will light up their living rooms or the outside of their homes. So the photograph is all-important.
But in order to get your customers to come to your website at all, you'll also need good SEO. And this means writing detailed descriptions with keywords and blog posts and social media poststhat cover a variety of topics. “53% of marketers, say that creating blog content is their top inbound marketing priority.” If you're not sure what you could write about, here are a few possibilities:
- How many Christmas traditions can be traced back to Charles Dickens?
- What's new in the world of Christmas decorations?
- Should you put a star at the top of your Christmas tree or an angel?
- Why go for a “real” Christmas tree instead of a “fake” one?
- How to build a fire in your fireplace to create that festive feeling?
Holiday Season Gifts
Buying Christmas gifts for loved ones has to be one of the most dreaded chores ever. You never know what to get people. A scarf for your wife seems too impersonal but you can't afford a piece of jewelry right now. The same goes for kids, parents, colleagues, friends etc.
So if you, as a business owner, can do something to make Christmas shopping easier for your customers, they'll thank you with all their heart (and they might end up buying what you're selling too!) The best thing is to give suggestions. You can do this on your website, blog or social media posts. Here are some possible blog post titles:
- What kind of jewelry should you buy your wife this Christmas?
- More suggestions about what to buy for your spouse at Christmas.
- Popular books in various genres to use as Christmas gifts.
- All-purpose gifts—scarves, books, earrings, handbags, wine etc.
The more suggestions you make, the more likely it is you'll be able to help your customers make up their minds. Plus, it also helps when you suggest things that are unique so that people don't find themselves buying the same things year after year.
And, as with decorations, you'll need to make sure you have really nice photographs of all the items you're selling as potential gifts. Remember that a few special offers (two scarves for the price of one) won't hurt either. Retailers who use promotions and discounts are successful.
If you're selling products or services relating to the Christmas holiday, make sure you use the term “Christmas” at least a few times on each of the pages of your website where it's relavent. There's no need to go overboard and have these terms show up in each and every sentence, maybe just once in every paragraph.
