Since there's over a foot of snow outside and the high today is supposed to be 20, after shoveling the driveway and sidewalk, I decided to spend the rest of the day inside today. As you would expect, I had to spend some time on Facebook. While poking around there I found a new feature called “Suggested Events,” which uses your Facebook check-in information to suggest events you may want to attend.
This feature has replaced “Friends Events.” I've checked around and not everyone I spoke to has this feature right now. Facebook may be rolling this out in stages. If you do have the feature, here's how to get to it.
On the left side of your Facebook Home page, click on “Events.” When you do, different events will appear on the right side of your screen as always. Look underneath the calendar icon and the word “Events” and there you'll find the new “Suggested Events.” If you click on that a list of suggested events for the coming weeks and months appears.
On one hand, it's nice to see Facebook encouraging us to get out from in front of the computer and go out and do something. On the other hand, they're gather information about us and using it to give us suggestions of events to attend. Some may argue this is another violation of our right to privacy. Other might think we get was we deserve for checking in places to begin with.
