A couple days ago, our friends at LinkedIn launched “Follow Company” to make it easy for you to follow companies you are interested in. After following a company, you will get notifications like Facebook “status updates” when the company you are following posts something. This feature appears to be in line with what used to be called the Facebook “Fan” page (Now I suppose it is the Facebook “Like Page”) and Twitter, that enables you to follow people and companies you are interested in. Now, the companies you follow will be able to let you know about the people they hire, the people they promote, new job opportunities, and press release type information.
“Follow” has been included as a tab on company pages. Clicking on the tab will enable you to see who else is following the company, along with a short profile blurb. There are two ways to follow a company. You may visit the company's profile page or you may follow a company from a person's profile page. Just click the company name and the option to follow that company will appear. You may also control the information you receive from the company. LinkedIn has provided a tool to let you choose how often you receive updates and the type of updates you wish to receive.
This may seem like a small change, and maybe it is. In that I am currently searching for a job, maybe I am more attuned to some of the possibilities here. I would expect companies to promote this feature and their LinkedIn profiles so they can connect to LinkedIn members who are looking for work and the high caliber of members wanting to follow the company.
What do you think about the “Follow Company” feature? Will you be following companies on LinkedIn. Leave a comment and let me know.
