Google+ will now ban the use of pseudonyms and nicknames, requiring people to use their real name. This is in line with Google's Common Names Policy. The policy was supposed to fight spam and prevent the creation of fake profiles.
Several weeks ago, Google suspended some big-name users for using their commonly-known pseudonyms instead of their real names. As you would imagine, Google endured a rash of criticism. That hasn't stopped Google from moving forward with its plan to ban the use of pseudonyms. Google+ Product Manager Saurabh Shama explained that the decision was made “to make connecting with people on the web more like connecting with people in the real world” on Google+.
Users were given four days to change their profile name before being banned. There are a myriad of circumstances where this policy could prove controversial and difficult to enforce. People concerned about safety may not be happy with this policy. People who use a pseudonym in real life may also be unhappy with the policy.
