It was reported this morning that outside investors have put money into LinkedIn and boosted its value to over $2 Billion.
According to Bloomberg, hedge fund Tiger Global Management spent $20 million to acquire a one percent stake in LinkedIn. The hedge fund paid $21.50 per share. If LinkedIn has 105 million outstanding shares (as reported) valued at $21.50 (paid by Tiger Global) then the company may be worth $2.26 Billion.
Two additional pieces of information: 1) Tiger Global didn't make a new investment in LinkedIn, it acquired shares from an existing shareholder; and 2) This transaction occurred in the private market and these numbers may not be accurate. I believe it's still probably that LinkedIn is now a multi-billion dollar company.
