The new Twitter.com interface looks a lot like the Twitter iPad app, just optimized for the web. The iPad app allows Twitter users to browse tweets in a timeline with links, videos, profiles and other content opening up in new panes to the right of the timeline. The new Twitter.com two-pane interface brings this functionality to the internet. The new design contains mini profiles, 16 new media partnerships for viewing embedded photos and videos, and a details pane providing additional information around a specific tweet.
The upgraded Twitter interface appears to be a full-featured desktop application without the need to download the app to your computer. The new interface is a huge change. There are no more right-hand navigation searches and useless user profile lookups. User can simply tab through their timeline, mentions, retweets, searches and lists via the upper navigation bar for instant access to nearly everything offered by Twitter.
For us, it's the media experience that really rocks! Twitter has partnered with Dailybooth, DeviantArt, Etsy, Flickr, Justin.TV, Kickstarter, Photozou, Plixi (formerly TweetPhoto), Twitgoo, TwitPic, Twitvid, USTREAM, Vimeo, Yfrog, and YouTube allowing users to put content from the people you follow right the middle of your timeline.
Media posts are tagged as such with their corresponding icons, and you can simply click on them to pull up photos or watch videos. Seesmic Desktop and TweetDeck come close to competing with the new interface, but even they can’t compete head-to-head on this front.
