The LinkedIn Analytics Team did some research to show what makes people cringe when they look at our LinkedIn Profiles. They pulled out those clichéd words and phrases, the ones that are so ambiguous they don't really tell the reader anything. Here are the top 10 buzzwords used in the USA in 2010:
- Extensive Experience
- Innovative
- Motivated
- Results-oriented
- Dynamic
- Proven track record
- Team player
- Fast-paced
- Problem solver
- Entrepreneurial
While members from the USA, Canada and Australis tend to emphasize their “extensive experience,” Brazilians, Indians and Spaniards identify themselves as “dynamic” professionals. Members of the UK call themselves “motivated” and the French, the Germans, the Italians and the Dutch see themselves as “innovative.”
Your profile is an extension of your brand. Take a close look at your profile and determine if it needs a makeover. Lose those clichéd terms!
