Revolutionizing Small Business Accounting: Strategies for Success

The Digital Slice Podcast is brought to you by The Friedman Group, LLC

Join Brad Friedman and Jody Grunden as they chat about the efficiency of having a virtual CFO on your staff and other must-know business tips intended to help you grow your business even if all your employees are virtual.

Jody co-founded Summit CPA Group, which merged with Anders CPAs + Advisors in 2022. Summit, now a division of Anders, was the first fully distributed accounting firm.

As a leading provider of Virtual CFO Services in North America, Summit provides
professional Virtual CFO Services for over 100 companies across the United States, helping business owners dive deep into the financial side of their business to maximize profits, minimize taxes, and increase cash flow.

Jody is also an industry speaker and a published author. He literally wrote the book on helping digital companies create a financial roadmap to success, Digital Dollars and Cents: A Virtual CFO’s Playbook to help Digital Companies Create a Financial Roadmap to Success.

In this Episode:

  • Jody talks about the efficiencies of hiring a virtual CFO.
  • Jody talks about the tasks a virtual CFO in his firm will generally perform.
  • Jody talks about the importance of modeling and looking forward instead of always looking in the rear view mirror.
  • Jody talks about the financial metrics a company that wants to grow will be looking at.
  • Jody also talks about the ins and outs of managing a company when all your employees are virtual.

Quotes from this Episode:
“We wanted to create something that wasn't just rear-view mirror looking.” – Jody Grunden
“We wanted to get away from billing by the hour, which was something that everybody did back then. And so, we created a subscription based billing model.” – Jody Grunden
“And so, it makes it a really nice opportunity for clients of a million dollars north, to really get the services that all these big companies have always had.” – Jody Grunden
“And so all four of those metric buckets are super important to understand. And they all come back to that very first bucket, which is cash.” – Jody Grunden
“Trust is the number one thing you need to have in order to have a successful office.” – Jody Grunden
