I recently listened to Facebook's Q1 2015 Earnings Report call. Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg were very upbeat about their report, the current position of the company and the future. People often ask me, “Will customer reviews help or hurt my business?” Several months ago, I advised readers not to panic over customer reviews and to claim their accounts on Google Local, Yelp, and other sites that list businesses and accept reviews. Since then, I’ve come across a mix of opinions regarding customer reviews, and I still think that good, honest businesses benefit from reviews, even if they aren’t always full of praise. (more…)

The word “Troll” is defined in the Urban Dictionary 256 times. Generally speaking, an Internet Troll is a member of an Internet forum who continually harangues and harasses others. One who posts a deliberately provocative message (generally attacking another person) with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument.

In mid-November, Facebook announced it would be “reducing overly promotional page posts in news feeds” starting in January. This seems to be just another step toward removing brands from the world's largest social network and / or forcing them to buy more advertising. Facebook's 20% content rule has already made it nearly impossible to boost a post or place an ad (Facebook Advertising Guidelines, Section D). My image with the words “Happy Thanksgiving” was rejected when I tried to boost that post last month. Ridiculous! Now, an arbitrary determination is going to be made by someone who thinks a brand's post is “overly promotional.” (more…)
