A couple weeks ago, the cofounders of YouTube, Chad Hurley and Steve Chen, released the latest video app, MixBit. MixBit was originally released as an iPhone app that lets you record, edit, share videos. But being that this app was created by two former YouTube gurus, the thing that really makes MixBit bigger and better than Vine and Instagram is the fact that users can edit and share clips from other users to create their own movies. In August, Twitter, the four-year-old micro-blogging service flew past MySpace in unique visitors to become the No. 3 social networking service in the world, according to new data from comScore Inc. Twitter recorded almost 96 million unique visitors in August, up 76% from August 2009, comScore said. During the same period of time, MySpace dropped 17% during the same period, to 95 million unique visitors in August. (more…)

There are hundreds of desktop and mobile applications competing for just 22% of the Twitter market, as 78% of users use Twitter.com to read and send their tweets. The competition for your desktop has been fierce. Now competitors like TweetDeck and Seesmic Desktop 2 will have to fight harder to attract new users. (more…)

The new Twitter.com interface looks a lot like the Twitter iPad app, just optimized for the web. The iPad app allows Twitter users to browse tweets in a timeline with links, videos, profiles and other content opening up in new panes to the right of the timeline. The new Twitter.com two-pane interface brings this functionality to the internet. The new design contains mini profiles, 16 new media partnerships for viewing embedded photos and videos, and a details pane providing additional information around a specific tweet. (more…)

Twitter is rolling out a new web interface. Most people will be seeing a preview roll out over the next several weeks. It appears the plan is to integrate multimedia into the Twitter stream as part of a totally redesigned interface. (more…)
