Multi-Functional Gadgets Can Lead To Less

My experience has been that advances in technology have led to the accumulation of devices. It appears today's technology enables us to eliminate many of the devices we have been using and attempt to do more with less. What a novel thought! Everyone would agree paper calendars, business card holders, and the Rolodex have been digitized and replaced. There may be other things we can get rid of too. (more…)

The Code of Professional Responsibility, Rule 1.1 Competence provides, “A lawyer shall provide competent representation to a client.  Competent representation requires the legal knowledge, skill, thoroughness and preparation reasonably necessary for the representation.”  Comments to Rule 1.1 provide, in part, “Competent handling of a particular matter includes inquiry into and analysis of the factual and legal elements of the problem, and use of methods and procedures meeting the standards of competent practitioners.” (more…)

The SEC, FINRA and Social Media

While managing a very tight budget, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has found work it can do right at their own desks. Last month, the SEC sent a document request list to investment advisors seeking to learn how they use social media sites like Flickr, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn and Twitter, according to the compliance alert posted on the ACA Compliance Group's website.
