Twitter has more than 200 million registered users who post more than 110 million tweets per day. If you aren't involved with Twitter you are missing an opportunity to promote your services. Whether you are a law office, CPA firm, Dentist or doctor you should be using Twitter to promote the services you offer. Remember though, promotions on Twitter takes time and effort. It's more than just tweeting about the latest breakthrough in teeth whitening. To succeed with Twitter, or any social network, you have to have a plan. The Code of Professional Responsibility, Rule 1.1 Competence provides, “A lawyer shall provide competent representation to a client. Competent representation requires the legal knowledge, skill, thoroughness and preparation reasonably necessary for the representation.” Comments to Rule 1.1 provide, in part, “Competent handling of a particular matter includes inquiry into and analysis of the factual and legal elements of the problem, and use of methods and procedures meeting the standards of competent practitioners.” (more…)

While managing a very tight budget, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has found work it can do right at their own desks. Last month, the SEC sent a document request list to investment advisors seeking to learn how they use social media sites like Flickr, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn and Twitter, according to the compliance alert posted on the ACA Compliance Group's website. Newsweek magazine calls Wael Ghonim “The Facebook Freedom Fighter.” Ghonim and others used social media to spur Egyptians to action and begin the Arab Revolution of 2011 bringing unrest to the entire region. Yet, people continue to believe “Social Media is a fad I don’t have the time for.” The actions of Ghonim and others, along with the outcome of their actions should be looked at as an example to be followed by all types of businesses in the United States and abroad.
