Classrooms now are much different from the ones your grandparents were in when they were young. For one thing, nobody had laptops and smartphones. Depending how old you are, there might have been a few TVs — not flat screens, the bulky ones. And, no classroom would have been complete without the tried-and-true overhead projector. The point is, there were none of the high-tech devices you normally see in schools today.
We’ve Come A Long Way Baby!
Since the technology that connects us all didn’t exist when our grandparents were growing up, they learned mostly from their teachers at school. Now, computers have leveled the playing field. We learn as much from one another as from our teachers, while our teachers learn more from us, making learning a richer experience for everyone.
Having greatly improved traditional learning environments, open communication facilitated by technology is being applied to business in order for businesses to better engage customers. One of the most popular mediums to do this is live video. This is just one of the concepts Professor Peter Nez, a Communications and social media guru, shared with me during this weeks episode of The Digital Slice Podcast.
Not Your Average Professor
“Video is the predominant form of communication of the 21st century,” Professor Nez tells us.
Professor Nez teaches Writing and Communications at Chapman University, an educational institution founded in 1857 that isn’t necessarily known for technological innovation.
But, Professor Nez isn’t your ordinary educator. He is also a successful career coach, author and speaker. Most surprising of all, he has managed to parlay his expertise in communications into a service that all businesses now need: effective social media strategy implementation.
How Open Communication Using Live Video Boosts Customer Engagement
Businesses wanting to successfully engage its customers on social media must pay particular attention to how they communicate with them. Done well, their connections are strengthened, allowing its brand to grow. Done poorly, its reputation takes a hit and customers are lost, causing sales to decline.
A lot of personal communication on social media is open and public. Much information is shared freely. Customers expect businesses to act the same way. But that doesn’t mean businesses can’t put their best foot forward without coming off as fake (something that’s sure to get you bashed when you’re found out).
Here’s where you can use Professor Nez’s powerful teaching-learning approach to your advantage. With his strategy of experiential learning done with kindness, empathy and generosity using live video, you’re sure to win the hearts and minds of your customers. “Live video is just a beautiful way to share your story,” Professor Nez said.
Check out this week's podcast with Professor Nez to learn more about how incorporating essential classroom strategies, humanness and live video into your social media campaigns guarantees you come out on top and discover who your are. After you listen, it would be great if you'd leave your written review. Enjoy!
