Last week, Twitter released its own web analytics tool to help website owners who rely on Twitter for content distribution determine how much traffic they are getting from the site. The tool is intended to give website owners more data to help them determine if Twitter is driving traffic to their site.
The tool is run by BackType, a social analytics company acquired by Twitter a few months ago. BackType founder Christopher Golda says the analytics tool will help website owners understand three key things: How much of their content is being shared on Twitter, how much traffic Twitter is sending to their site and how well Tweet Buttons are performing.
Currently, the tool is free and in beta. A small pilot group of partners will get a look at the tool this week and we expect Twitter to roll it out to website owners in a few weeks when they release the API for developers interested in incorporating Twitter data in their products.
