Avoiding legal and ethical problems on social media should be high on your list of things to do in 2014. For many attorneys, social media is a dangerous mistress. Many in the legal profession and at professional responsibility seminars advocate against the use of social media because of the potential legal and ethical concerns it creates for attorneys. However, as search engines increasingly rely on social media to determine relevance in ranking pages it has become more and more important to have a strong presence on sites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, and others. LinkedIn is a popular business networking tool said to have almost 260 million members, according to the Digital Market Ramblings (DMR), which also places the number of U.S. users at 84 million.
